The Young And The Restless Weekly Blog!

I won't compromise myself.
Er, too late Nikki, you just slept with Victor in the bed he shares with his wife, Diane. Hehe! The Victor/Nikki/Deacon situation this week felt a tad predictable. At the Club it might have been fun if Victor had done something unexpected instead of storming out in anger as per usual. As for the ensuing Nikki/Victor argument later at the ranch, most viewers could have recited the dialogue by rote. I can't decide whether it's ironic that they keep having variations on the same argument time after time, or whether it's just plain annoying. That said, what is amazing is that the intensity of their chemistry - whether they are loving or fighting - hasn't dulled a bit over the years. That's awesome.

Genoa City doesn't work for you.
I though it was great that Diane's friend, Michael, would make such an honest observation to her. What can you say about Diane? Last week she slept with Jack, this week she was headed for what she thought was a rendezvous with Tucker on the eve of his wedding to another woman, all while trying to salvage her marriage to Victor. At least she bought new lingerie. I'm all for Diane having fun on her terms, and even striking back at Victor, who's treated her with little respect, but her actions lately have been 'reactions', so she doesn't seem empowered. What Diane needs now is some dignity. What do you think Diane should do next? Let us know by voting in Soaps.com's The Young and the Restless Snap Poll: Diane's Next Move.

I think you're making a mistake.
Thank you, Murphy! I haven't been able to understand this tangent Katherine has been on where Tucker is concerned at all. She's condemned him time and again for making business moves that Victor would have made without blinking an eye. Even Jack called her out on her sudden penchant for putting Victor ahead of all else. With the car wreck, I now see Katherine's attitude toward Tucker, and his abrasiveness toward her, as a means for the writers to introduce conflict between the pair. It sets the emotional bar much higher since she wasn't able to find him and make things right before this tragedy occurred. I'm usually not a fan of such obvious manipulation, but in this case, I feel very invested in the mother/son relationship, and can't wait to see what happens next. This worked!

Spinning out!
Abby's incredible meltdown has made for delicious soap opera viewing once again this week. What satisfaction when Ashley smacked her in the police station! What tension when she tried to get her to pull over the car! Marcy Rylan has been scary good depicting Abby's mash-up of emotions - vulnerable, angry, misunderstood, hurt - and the manifestation of those feelings as she has confronted people, connived, and drunkenly acted out. The shocking scene where she tore down the wedding decorations and fell into the fountain was amazing, and the Friday cliffhanger involving the set-up and the car wreck could not have been better. Bravo! Can't wait for Monday's show!

Restless Rant
Week of May 9 – 13:

It seems like a different big storyline has been featured each week of sweeps, which is great, but perhaps to the detriment of the stories that lose momentum or fall right off the canvas. Other than that, I’ve been enjoying tuning in to “Y&R.” Let’s take a look as I work up from rant to rave:

Deflated.
That’s how I felt after the climax of the Jana storyline. Aside from the outstanding acting, there was no real payoff for viewers in this tale. Kevin and Chloe being reunited certainly didn’t cut it – this pairing just hasn’t found popularity with viewers. I would have liked to see some more significant reaction to Jana’s death – she was a beloved character for a long time despite going off the deep end. A majority of Soaps.com readers polled felt that the way Jana was written off did a disservice to Kevin and Jana’s love story, so some remembrances and a service for Jana this week would have been nice.

Light his fire.
One of the things that tends to light a fire under Nicholas Newman is interacting with his half-brother Adam. That’s partly why I was drawn in to the idea of them coming together with a common cause – to prove Sharon didn’t commit suicide. So it was disappointing that after one scene the plot went ‘poof’ for the rest of the week. It’s always interesting when adversaries are forced to team up, so I hope they revisit this. Meanwhile, out at the barn, Sam showed signs of life when he finally became frustrated with Sharon’s weird behavior. Good thing, because the barn scenes were beginning to be a big yawn.

Baby on the back-burner.
After everyone’s high emotion when Lucy was taken and put into foster care, wouldn’t you think someone would have arranged for supervised visitation with her immediately rather than attending dinner parties or hanging in the coffee shop? How ridiculous that Billy and Vikki would see her accidentally in the park. Other beats in the story, however, continued to be good – I liked Victor stepping in with Michael, and Phyllis hiring Leslie. One question though – Rafe told Billy and Vikki last week that he could get Daisy’s parental rights terminated, so why does Phyllis think she has to find Daisy in order to do that and move forward? Although this story lost a little momentum this week, I like the way the tension is building anew and it’s shaping up to be Phyllis versus everyone. Will she have anyone on her side? Let me know what you think will happen.
